JAY-Z’s mom comes out the closet as a Lesbian on his Album 4:44

Jay-Z’s new album 4:44 dropped on Friday,  June 30th at exactly midnight on TIDAL. His album opened a lot of eyes in regards to his own mom’s sexual orientation.

Most people did not know that Jay-Z’s mom was a lesbian but on his 13th song  ‘Smile’ he says his “momma had 4 kids but she’s a lesbian. Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate. Society shame and the pain was too much to take. Cried tears of joy when you fell in love. Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her. I just want to see you smile through all the hate.”

Jay-Z also talks about his mom living in the shadow.  He states”Can you imagine what kind of life it is to live? In the shadows, people see you as happy and free, because that’s what you want them to see. Living two lives, happy, but not free.”

The song ‘Smile’ was a very sentimental song about his mom who he loves rather she is with a him or her. Also at the end of the song ‘Smile’ Gloria Carter speaks these words:

The world is changing and they say it’s time to be free, but you live with the fear of just being me. Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be. ‘No harm for them, no harm for me. But life is short, and it’s time to be free. Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed. Smile.’
